Research interests

Gowri is an epidemiologist and public health policy scientist interested in mix methods studies. In her previous positions, she was part of the core team involved with the control and prevention of the SARS epidemic in 2003 in Singapore for which she received a national public service medal. She has also been responsible for drawing up the first national biosafety and biosecurity framework for Singapore following the SARS epidemic to govern the safe movement and handling of biological agents within and out of Singapore.

She has coordinated and been involved in several high level strategic and expert advisory committees in her career as an epidemiologist at the international level, working with the CDC in the US, WHO, Health Canada, NICE and various Ministries of Health. She has also several years of experience as an epidemiologist in the pharmaceutical industry. Her public and private industry experience in public health has enabled her to understand how to work with different stakeholders in order to effect evidence based policy changes on the ground.

In her current position, she is responsible for designing and implementing one of the largest surveys funded by ZonMw to study factors that promote and/or hinder responsible research among academics in The Netherlands. She is honorary Research Fellow at the Department of Ethics, Law and Humanities, Vrije University Medical Centre, Amsterdam University Medical Center.
