Research interests
Dr. Inge Henselmans is assistant professor at the department of Medical Psychology and a trainer/tutor at the Specialty training for General Practice at the Academic Medical Center/ University of Amsterdam. She earned a master degree (2003) in Social Psychology at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands, with minors in Health and Clinical Psychology. After graduation, she was involved in research projects in different health care organizations. She earned her doctorate degree (2009) with a PhD thesis on the psychological well-being of women with breast cancer at the Health Psychology section of the University Medical Center, Groningen. She received a personal career-development grant from the Dutch Cancer Society in 2009, and again in 2013. Key themes in her post-doctoral research career are medical communication and patient participation, particularly at the end of life. Her current work is focused on prognostic communication, shared decison making in palliative cancer care, and the evaluation of communication skills programs. She chaired the working party Psychosocial Oncology of the Dutch Cancer Society from 2014-2017; and she was a member of the board the Dutch Association for Psychosocial Oncology from 2017-2018. She supervises interns, PhD students and residents, and provides communication skills training to medical specialists and GPs (in training).
