Personal profile
Research interests
Neonatal pulmonology with a focus on the control of breathing.
Within this theme, I have special interests in monitoring respiration in preterm infants with transcutaneous EMG of the diaphragm (dEMG) and treating apnea in preterm infants. The research includes bench studies and clinical trials. With this research, I have validated the technique of dEMG as cardiorespiratory monitoring over the past few years. Furthermore, I am investigating whether this technique can be used to synchronise spontaneous breathing in preterm infants with ventilators. I am also investigating the effects of hypoxia due to apnoea in preterm infants and whether doxapram can be safely given as treatment for apnea in preterm infants.
