Research interests

As a PhD candidate i am participating in the BRVO and BRDME studies: two randomized, controlled, double masked, clinical trials. Both studies compare the effectiveness and costs of bevacizumab to ranibizumab in patients with retinal veins occlusions and diabetic macular edema respectively. It is hypothisized that bevacizumab is non-inferior to ranibizumab regarding effectiveness in both studies.

Besides the clinical outcomes, we will analyse blood plasma from included patients to look for potential biomarkers. We will evaluate the diagnostic value of individual or combinations of selected candidate biomarkers of diabetic retinopathy. Finding reliable biomarkers for diabetic retinopathy would facilitate early diagnoses and therefore early treatment.
