Research interests

My research is focused on the interactions between human hosts and the respiratory microbiota in the context of respiratory disease. The microbial ecosystem of the human respiratory tract has just begun to be investigated using the latest deep-sequencing techniques. It might reveal previously unknown relationships between our commensal microbes and the development of acute respiratory infections.
As the senior scientist of the European PREPARE project (http://www.prepare-europe.eu/) within the AMC, I conduct and supervise investigations on virus/bacteria interactions in in-vitro models, respiratory microbiota in patients cohorts, respiratory microbiota in human test subjects and analysis of human response during respiratory infection.
