My research is aimed at improving quality of care at the system-level. I am mainly interested in the interplay between the health care system and indivudals working in this system. Insight in the interactions between the system and the individual, and the ways in which these two reinforce one-another, bears great learning potential for quality improvement. 

My current research is aimed at describing adverse events and preventable deaths in hospitals by means of retrospective record review. This national study gives insigh in the development of adverse events in hospitals and provides policy makers and hospitals with valuable information to further improve patient safety.
