Research interests

Epidemiological research in patients with chronic kidney disease

Main research projects:

1) ERA Registry (funded by the European Renal Association)

The ERA Registry is a European Registry collecting data on kidney replacement therapy (i.e. dialysis and kidney transplantation) via the national and regional renal registries in Europe. The current expansion of the ERA Registry database with donor and transplant variables and associated transplant studies are led by Vianda. Her research focuses on patients with chronic kidney disease, including those with end-stage renal disease who are treated with kidney replacement therapy. She is particularly engaged in further establishing a line of research in the field of kidney transplantation.

2) Nieratlas, Dutch Kidney Atlas (funded by Dutch Kidney Foundation)

The aim of the Dutch Kidney Atlas was to develop an online Dutch Kidney Atlas using the Dutch health claims database (Vektis database). In addition it aimed to perform research on healthcare costs, healthcare use, treatment and outcomes of kidney patients (in comparion to the general population) using the Vektis database. It also examined the validity of the Vektis database. Vianda obtained funding and led the Dutch Kidney Atlas project, which demonstrated, among other things, better outcomes and a cost benefit of kidney transplantation over dialysis. The Dutch Kidney Atlas website will be updated each year.
