Research interests

Yoni van Dijk, MD (1993) is a PhD student and physician at the Emma Children’s Hospital Amsterdam UMC. Next to her clinical work, she performs research on severe paediatric lung diseases. She is actively involved in the coordination of multiple national and international studies aimed at improving care for paediatric patients with severe asthma, such as the Paediatric Asthma Non-Invasive Diagnostic Approaches (PANDA) study, Personalized Medicine Approach for Asthma and Allergy Biologicals Selection in Clinics (Permeable - Home) study  and the Treating severe paediatric asthma (TREAT) study.

Furthermore, she coordinates the development of the newly established Follow Me outpatient clinics for paediatric patients with severe asthma and tracheobronchomalacia. These outpatient clinics were developed to provide care to a group of children with various respiratory symptoms who are at high risk of frequent respiratory infections, exacerbations and irreversible lung damage. The newly developed outpatient clinic is part of the Emma Children’s Hospital Amsterdam UMC Follow Me program, a program that aims to establish multidisciplinary follow-up for all tertiary care pediatric patients with the ambition to enhance clinical follow-up, support routine outcome monitoring, and fuel clinical multidisciplinary research. More information on the Emma Children’s Hospital Amsterdam UMC Follow Me program can be found here.

Yoni van Dijk her current research is embedded in this follow-up program and focusses on identifying phenotypes of children with severe asthma to better predict response to therapy and enable early personalized intervention strategies. By gaining insight into the differentiating clinical characteristics of patients and with the use of non-invasive biomarkers, such as exhaled air (breathomics), she hopes to facilitate clinical decision making and improve patient care.

Yoni van Dijk graduated at the Faculty of Medicine at Amsterdam University in 2019. She previously  was appointed as physician at the pediatric department of the St. Antonius and Tergooi hospital.
