Description

In two-thirds of Dutch hospitals, infection control link nurses (ICLN) serve as role models in providing safe care. These nurses are trained to monitor infection prevention on their ward and to inform and facilitate their peers so they can improve their clinical practice.

Programs to support ICLN are developed locally, by infection control practitioners, resulting in a wide variety of content. The implementation and evaluation also varies; existing knowledge is not sufficiently applied.

We will to develop, implement and evaluate a link nurse program, in which effective elements and evidence based implementation strategies are integrated. We will collaborate with nine partner organizations using principles from action research and design with the aim to further expand our knowledge on optimizing effectiveness and implementation of link nurse programs.
