Mol B.W.J.: Clinical epidemiology in obstetrics, gynaecology and fertility

Project Details

Description

In 2002, we initiated the Dutch OFO-project, a study that aims to evaluate the effectiveness and costeffectiveness of the basic fertility work-up. In this study, which is supported by ZON-MW, about 40 fertility clinics in The Netherlands are collaborating. This has resulted in the formation of a large cohort of 6.000 subfertile couples, and several multicenter trials. Main subjects of study within this project are the validation and further development of prognostic models for spontaneous pregnancy and for pregnancy after treatment, and the evaluation of the effectiveness of intra-uterine insemination.

In 2003, a consortium of obstetricians was formed that cooperates in performing studies in obstetrics. In this consortium, six large multicenters are at present undertaken to investigate the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of obstetrical interventions. At present, all perinatal centres are partcipating, as well as more than 50 non-academic hospitals.

A third research line is the development of diagnostic methods in obstetrics and gynaecology. A study proposal entitled: Use of probabilistic decision rules in Obstetrics and Gynaecology was granted in the VIDI program of ZonMw, The Netherlands. In the coming years, we will focus on meta-analysis of Individual Patient Data and individual risk prediction.
