    Description

More than half of the Dutch adult population is overweight, resulting in physical and mental health problems. Weight loss results in health benefits. Unfortunately, only few people who lose weight, manage to maintain their lost weight. Preventing relapses in weight loss maintenance is crucial to uphold health benefits. Scientific knowledge on what causes a relapse and how we can prevent people to relapse is however largely lacking. This is exactly what I aim to provide.

The overall aim of our project is to provide more insight into the predictors of relapse in weight loss maintenance behaviors.

To meet this aim we will use an exciting mix of data collection methods including a systematic review and two concept mapping studies; one with the target population (i.e. adults who lost weight) and one with practitioners and scientist from multiple disciplines. Lastly we will collect unique data using real time ecological momentary assessments.

    Layman's description

Weight loss results in health benefits in overweight adults. However, only few people who lose weight, manage to maintain their lost weight. In this project we will investigate what causes weight regain and how we can prevent people to regain weight.
