Description
Glioblastoma research is focussed on energy metabolism because we have strong indications that the Warburg effect does not apply to glioblastoma. Mitochondrial glutamine/glutamate catabolism seems to be important as energy source in cancer cells. Furthermore, the mutation in the genes of the metabolic enzymes NADP-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) 1 and 2 was found to be linked with prolonged survival of secondary glioblastoma patients. With the use of quantitative histochemical means, we investigate molecular mechanisms of the prolonged survival.
