Abstract
Allergy tests were performed in a 28-year old employee of Nedtrain with therapy resistant eczema on his hands, forearms and face. Patch testing showed a contact allergy to cinnamyl alcohol and α-hexyl cinnamyl aldehyde containing windshield washer fluid. A workplace survey revealed frequent aerogenous exposure to the windshield washer fluid, which provided a good explanation for the distribution of the eczema. After avoiding contact with the windshield washer fluid the eczema cleared completely. This case report shows the importance of a workplace survey for the adequate interpretation and evaluation of the clinical relevance of allergy testing results.
