Abstract

In view of the stressful nature of truck driving, stress management training provides a useful intervention to uphold drivers performance and vitality. The Trucker Strain Monitor (TSM) was developed as a tool to (1) identify truck drivers who may benefit from these kinds of interventions and (2) to evaluate the effect of stress management training. This chapter reports on five psychometric qualities of the TSM: (1) content and construct validity, (2) internal consistency, (3) concurrent validity, (4) responsiveness to change and (5) test-retest reliability. Based on the observed psychometric properties of the TSM, it is concluded that the TSM is a useful tool to detect truck drivers who may take advantage of stress management training and, presumably, can be used as an instrument for the evaluation of the effect of stress management training.
