Abstract

We studied 44 patients with clinical and electromyographic signs of lumbosacral root injury but with normal H-reflexes. In 23 of these patients myelography, computed tomography and/or operation revealed the level of the defect. In these 23 patients the L4-L5 and/or L5-S1 levels were indicated to be the levels of pathology. Fifteen patients were operated upon. In 12 patients there was evidence of pathology at the level L4-L5, in one at the levels L4-L5 and L5-S1, and in the remaining 2 patients at the level L5-S1. Our results indicate that this group of patients suffers from lumbosacral radiculopathy involving the L5-root. The L5-root might even be the only nerve root affected in these patients.
