Abstract
SAMENVATTING
Dit artikel presenteert een nieuw meetinstrument om ‘morele veerkracht’
te meten. Morele veerkracht is het vermogen van een individu om om te
gaan met en te herstellen van situaties die als moreel belastend worden
ervaren. We gaan in op het vertaal- en aanpassingsproces van de Rushton
Moral Resilience Scale (RMRS) naar het Nederlands, en de uitdagingen die
we hierin tegenkwamen. De RMRS-NL is een aanvulling op reeds bestaande
instrumenten die morele competenties of morele stress bepalen, omdat het
de mogelijkheid biedt rechtstreeks het vermogen van zorgverleners te bepalen
om goed om te gaan met de morele belasting die zij ervaren in hun werk.
SUMMARY
This article presents the Dutch translation of a new scale to measure “moral
resilience”, i.e. “the capacity of an individual to sustain or restore their integrity
in response to moral adversity” (Rushton, 2016). We will discuss the translation
and adaptation process of the Rushton Moral Resilience Scale (RMRS) to
the Dutch language and context, and the challenges we encountered in
this process. The RMRS(-NL) complements pre-existing instruments that
determine moral competences or moral stress, as it offers the possibility to
directly determine the capacity of caregivers to properly cope with the moral
burden they experience in their work.
