Abstract
In 1999 the Dutch government appointed ten dedicated trauma centres in the Netherlands. The trauma centres and the hospitals in the trauma region are committed to documenting the 'Major Trauma Outcome Study' (MTOS+) dataset of all trauma patients that are admitted to the Emergency Department. The implementation of this national trauma record has been a complex and time-consuming process. The trauma record provides important information on the pre-hospital triage and outcomes in trauma patients. Comparison with data from other hospitals or countries is difficult due to limitations in the datasets with respect to data quality, population coverage, and outcome modelling
