Research interests

Sean Benson received his first degree in Mathematics and Physics before pursuing a PhD in Particle Physics working at the Large Hadron Collider in CERN, Geneva. Primarily specialising in physics analysis and the development of novel low-latency artificial intelligence (AI), Sean moved to Amsterdam as part of a Marie Curie Individual Fellowship, after which he joined the Advanced Analytics and Big Data team of KPMG to implement a variety of AI models in cloud infrastructure. Sean then returned to academic research to develop AI models from medical imaging for the early detection of residual cancer at the Netherlands Cancer Institute. Sean joined the Amsterdam UMC in 2023 in order to pursue and interest in digital twinning and generative AI. Sean’s current research focuses on the use of synthetic data and digital twins to improve the calculation of cardiovascular disease risk and intervention simulation.
