GPS: Gesprekken over Psychosociale behoeften, inclusief vragen over intimiteit en Seksualiteit met patiënten met ongeneeslijke kanker

In patients with incurable cancer, conversations about psychosocial needs and more specific about intimacy and sexuality are important. Nurses can discuss these subjects with patients, however often miss the opportunity and subsequently tailored interventions are lacking. As a result, patients do not receive the psychosocial support they need.
The aim of this implementation project is to realize that nurses do have structural conversations with patients with incurable cancer about psychosocial needs and probable questions about intimacy and sexuality. As a result, we expect that patients and partners experience better quality of care and quality of life, and that nurses and other healthcare workers have improved knowledge and skills for these conversations.
To realise this aim, we will implement and evaluate a combined intervention, consisting of the distress thermometer and PLISSIT.

Verpleegkundigen zijn geschikte professionals om gesprekken over psychosociale behoeften te voeren met patiënten met ongeneeslijke kanker. Daar kunnen ook vragen over intimiteit en seksualiteit onder vallen. Dergelijke gesprekken worden in de praktijk echter lang niet altijd gevoerd, en gerichte vervolgacties ontbreken vaak. Hierdoor ontvangen patiënten niet altijd de psychosociale ondersteuning die ze nodig hebben. Met het project willen we bereiken dat verpleegkundigen structureel gesprekken aangaan met patiënten met ongeneeslijke kanker over psychosociale zorgbehoeften en eventuele vragen over intimiteit en seksualiteit.
