Kootstra N.A.: Host and virus interaction with focus on HIV-1, HBV and HCV

Project Details

Description

mainly focuses on virus-host interactions in the natural course of HIV-1 infection and during therapeutic intervention. In particular, we study the role of restriction factors and other newly identified HIV dependency factors in HIV-1 replication and pathogenesis. Furthermore, we study immunological ageing in patients with HIV receiving long-term cART who participate in the prospective ageing cohort study on “Co-morbidity and Ageing with HIV” (AGEhIV) and participate in the COBRA study (EU FP7) on “Co-morbidity in relation to Aids”.

In collaboration with Sanquin and the Department of Gastroenterology at the AMC, the role of viral and host factors in HBV replication and the response to antiviral therapy in chronic hepatitis B patients is investigated.

Our group participates in the Amsterdam Cohort Studies on HIV infection and AIDS (www.amsterdamcohortstudies.org ) and the prospective HIV and aging cohort (AgeIV).
