Abstract

Akathisia is characterized by a subjective report of inner restlessness and inability to sit still, relieved by moving about. When sitting, the patient usually has repetitive movements that involve primarily the legs and trunk. The prevalence of akathisia in neuroleptic-treated people ranges between 20 and 75%. Akathisia can also be seen in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease.
