N2 - Our research is aimed at characterization of the antiviral and allo-immune responses in kidney transplant recipients. In particular, we are interested in the differentiation, effector function and memory formation of T cells specific for the latent viruses cytomegalovirus (CMV) and BK virus (BKV) and in the impact of virus-specific immune responses on alloimmunity. Furthermore, we perform studies towards the most optimal, tailor-made immunosuppressive drug regimen and towards the impact of immunosuppression on infectious diseases; cognitive function and cardiovascular status of kidney transplant recipients.
