Abstract

Several drugs with effects on the central nervous system may induce movement disorders including parkinsonism, akathisia, dystonia, myoclonus, dyskinesia, tremor and ataxia. Antipsychotics, anti-emetic drugs, drugs with antivertigo activity, antidepressant drugs, antiparkinson drugs and anticonvulsant drugs are most frequently involved in movement disorders. Several types of movement disorder can coexist in the same patient. Movement disorders often disappear or reduce in severity after dose reduction or withdrawal of the drug. If necessary pharmacological treatment may be considered.
