Abstract
Botulinum toxin injections in the detrusor have become popular in patients with therapy resistant neurogenic or non-neurogenic detrusor overactivity. Preliminary data indicate excellent efficacy, but this therapy is not officially registered and therefore still experimental. The optimal dose, the amount and localisation of injections, anaesthesia technique, and the adequate time of re-injections remain to be evaluated. Therefore, randomised, placebo-controlled studies and standardization of the injection technique are necessary for official registration.
