Abstract

It is a true challenge for prescribers and pharmacists to choose the right drug among many (pharmaco)therapeutic alternatives to treat a certain condition. The number of available drugs, information and promises of superior quality are rising sharply. In reaction physicians and pharmacists are urged to prescribe and inform 'evidence-based'. In this paper we discuss the use and truths of 'evidence-based' pharmacotherapeutic knowledge as well as the role of pharmacoepidemiology as a new source to generate such knowledge.
