Abstract
Purpose: To investigate the participation of general practice patients in a voluntary cardiometabolic health check-up (PreventieConsult CMR) and the number of newly diagnosed cardiometabolic disorders. Methods: The PreventieConsult CMR was used and evaluated in 16 general practices. Patients between 45 and 70 years old without cardiometabolic disorders were invited to fill in an online questionnaire, the answers of which were used to calculate their risk (low, medium, or high) of cardiometabolic disorders. Half of the participating practices invited patients by means of a personal letter and the other half by means of leaflets and posters in the practice waiting room. Patients at high risk of cardiometabolic disorders were advised to consult their general practitioner. Data from the online risk questionnaire, GP consultation, and a questionnaire sent to a random sample of participating patients for a non-response analysis were analysed. Results: The response to the invitation letter and to the posters and leaflets was 33% and 1%, respectively. In total, 617 patients completed the online risk questionnaire, 392 (64%) of whom were at high risk of cardiometabolic disorders. In total, 142 patients consulted their GP and 28 (20%) were found to have one or more cardiometabolic disorders. Conclusion: About one-third of patients who were invited to participate took part in the PreventieConsult CMR pilot study, and half of these patients were considered at high risk and required further evaluation by their GP. Cardiometabolic disorders were diagnosed in 1 of 5 high-risk patients who consulted their GP.
