Abstract
The best way to categorize the various syndromes of epilepsy in children is to put the syndromes in chronological order. The choice of the right anti-epileptic drug is determined by the syndrome and the type of convulsions. The manifestations and treatment of the most common syndromes will be discussed. The classic anti-epileptics are effective in 75% of the children. When seizure control cannot be reached or the child suffers from serious side effects, the new anti-epileptics can be very valuable. However, there is very little experience with these new drugs.
