Abstract

Introduction Subfertility is defined as an inability to conceive after 1 year of regular unprotected sexual intercourse. One in six couples seek specialist care for this problem.1-4 In most clinics the fertility work-up consists of medical history taking and clinical examination, followed by diagnostic tests aimed at excluding recognised causes of infertility such as azoospermia, anovulation and bilateral tubal blockage. As a consequence, the initial diagnostic tests for infertility include evaluation of ovulation, a semen analysis and tests for tubal patency and function.
