Abstract

Anal cancer incidence is strongly increased in hiv positive men who have sex with men (MSM). The vast majority of these squamous cell cancers is caused by the Human Papil-loma Virus (HPV). As with the precursor stages of cervical cancer, precursor stages of anal cancer can be detected early on, and treated with the aim of preventing invasive tumors. The detection of precursor stages of anal cancer is done by high resolution anoscopy (HRA). Due to the limited capacity and the burden of the HRA-Procedure, there are surrogate investigation methods such as digital anorectal examination (DARE). In this case report the value of DARE for the early detection of anus carcinoma is emphasized.
