N2 - A recent study from the Framingham cohort showed that persons with high normal blood pressure, also known as prehypertension, are at increased risk for cardiovascular complications and have a 10% annual risk to progress to hypertension. Studies in spontaneous hypertensive rats have demonstrated that it is possible to postpone the development of hypertension and hypertensive organ damage by a temporary anti-hypertensive intervention if started early in life. Recently the TROPHY study showed that treatment with an angiotensin receptor blocker for 2 years was able to delay the progress to hypertension. In a randomized trial in relatively young (age 18-40 years) prehypertensive persons, we aim to investigate whether temporary treatment with an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor, for one year, reduces blood pressure and left ventricular mass two years after cessation of treatment compared to placebo
