Abstract
Persisting, severe hypoglycemia before the age of one year is in about 50% of the cases caused by hyperinsulinism. Diagnosis can be made through a systematic approach; insulin-glucose ratio's are crucial. Medical therapy, diazoxide, is the therapy of first choice.
