Abstract

Medication non compliance is a highly prevalent phenomenon and reduces significantly the effectiveness of drug therapy in schizophrenia. Factors which can be acted upon are: insight, (subjective) side-effects and therapeutic alliance. R CT'S show that non compliance to antipsychotic therapy can be reduced by long term psychoeducational and behavioral treatment directed at the patient and his or her family.
