The goal of the research is to get 3D pathology with both morphological and biochemical information. To achieve this, different image modalities (digital bright field microscopy, optical coherence microscopy, mass spectrometry imaging) will be combined to gain more insight in both morphological and biochemical properties of the tissue. Apart from the additional image modalities, we will make more sections of the tissue, enabling a three-dimensional reconstruction of the tissue. As a result, the orientation is simplified for the pathologist and the risk of missing anomalies reduced. However, more sections would also increase the workload for pathologist, using (semi-)automatic image analysis would decrease this workload and speed up the diagnosis.
