Vascular Immune Cell Biology
Immunology | cardiovascular disease | atherosclerosis | macrophages | epigenetics
My current research integrates fundamental research questions with translational applications and focuses on novel epigenetic regulatory mechanisms of inflammatory responses in macrophages in the context of atherosclerosis.
My previous research experiences include research on immunometabolism related to immune-paralysis in sepsis, molecular mechanisms underlying endothelial activation in systemic lupus erythematosus, and immunometabolism linked to tolerance inducing therapies in transplantation. These projects focus on monocytes, macrophages, myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSC) and regulatory T cells (Treg). Furthermore, I have collaborated on systematic (mapping) reviews of animal studies focusing on improving their translational value.
As a passionate, hardworking, and conscientious researcher, I have shown my capacity to combine various activities and commitments. I am an enthusiastic team player keen on learning more about the (dys)function of the human immune system. Additionally, I like to spread my enthusiasm for research and enjoy guiding others through my fields of interest.
