Meijers J.C.M.: Biochemistry of hemostasis and thrombosis

Project Details

Description

The blood coagulation system is an essential host defense mechanism. Better insights in blood platelets, blood coagulation, the regulation of the coagulation system and fibrinolysis have lead and will lead to new risk factors for venous thrombosis and to targets for therapy for venous and arterial thrombosis. Our research group aims to (better) undertand the mechanisms of initiation and regulation of the coagulation and fibrinolytic systems. The focus of research is on the interaction between coagulation and fibrinolysis. Other research lines are the interaction of the hemostatic system with bacteria, and characterization of lipoproteins with proteomic techniques.
