Abstract
Population aging is a worldwide phenomenon. For human individuals, aging is accompanied by several changes that may cause psychological stress. This article describes the extent of psychological stress experienced in old age as indicated by the level of depressive and anxiety symptomatology. Determinants as well as consequences of psychological stress in old age are described, and the role of aging is clarified. © 2007
